Exercise After Cancer Treatment
Moderate exercise such as walking, biking, or swimming for about 30 minutes every day or almost everyday can:
- Reduce anxiety and depression
- Improve mood
- Boost self-esteem
- Reduce symptoms of fatigue, nausea, pain and diarrhea.
During recovery, start your exercise slowly and increase activity over time. Just moving your arms and legs around can help you stay flexible, relieve muscle tension, and help you feel better. Most physicians recommend walking as the safest form of exercise initially after treatment.
Take special precautions to dress adequately and drink plenty of fluids. Remember, any type of treatment weakens the body and great care must be taken to establish a fitness routine.
